We believe that every company has a duty to be conscious, ethical entities within the community they serve. We strive to be excellent stewards of the ecology and environment of the High Country region by using both cutting-edge and tried-and-true technologies. In addition to environmental protection, we want to improve the lives of those living in our community through local programs that encourage healthy habits and staying local.
Photovoltaic Panels
Our electricity demands are offset by highly efficient solar panels. Our southwest-facing roof will have a 5kw array of PV panels. These panels convert sunlight directly into electricity, and feed immediately into our brewery. In addition to generating electricity, we will have constant monitoring of our systems to show their electricity production.
Wetlands and Rain Garden
The Appalachian Mountain Brewery is located at the confluence of Boone Creek and Hodges Creek. In conjunction with the National Committee of the New River, we are restoring the riparian zone surrounding the brewery and transforming them into an educational wetlands. Planting native North Carolina plants such as blueberry bushes and flame azaleas will inhibit further erosion of the creek bank; as well as provide a healthy habitat for aquatic organisms in the creeks. In further collaboration with NCNR, runoff from the roof of the brewery will be redirected into a rain garden that will be located in front of the brewery.
Grain Exchange with Local Farms
To create the most ‘full-circle’ brewing process, we donate our spent grain to local farmers to use as cattle feed. This diverts the spent grain from the landfill and helps local farmers make ends meet. Any meat that might be donated from the farms will be given directly to local food banks to continue the effort of giving back to the community.
Bike Stations
In addition to brewing green, we want everyone who visits to be sustainable. To help facilitate this, the brewery will have covered bike stations and will offer incentives to those who walk or ride their bike to the brewery. This not only supports a healthy, sustainable lifestyle for our customers but also falls directly in-line with the Town of Boone’s 2030 Town Transportation Model.
